I recently listened to a homily on the Sunday of the Myrrh-Bearing Women by Fr. Peter Heers. It started off well enough and was delivered with eloquence, it promised to be a good sermon. But, at the halfway point, it took a turn into eisegesis — working one’s favorite issues into a Gospel pericope that had nothing to do with the passage prescribed for the Sunday.
